Windy Creek Estate

Windy Creek Estate is a third-generation family vineyard in Herne Hill that has been making wine in the Swan Valley since 1937, and the outdoor cellar door area, looking out over the vines toward the Darling Scarp, welcomes leashed dogs for a tasting.

The dog setup. Dogs are permitted in the outdoor seating facing the vineyard, on a leash and well-behaved around other patrons. Water bowls are commonly put out for visiting dogs, though it is worth bringing your own on a hot day in case none is out.

What's there. The cellar door pours a spread of dry whites, complex reds and fortifieds, the last of which is a particular highlight, served with the kind of relaxed, non-pretentious service the estate is known for.

Getting there. Windy Creek Estate is at 27 Stock Road, Herne Hill, just off the Great Northern Highway, with a free onsite car park.

Nearby with the dogs. Olive Farm Wines on Campersic Road is another dog-friendly cellar door close by, and the quiet backroads around Herne Hill and Brabham are lined with more dog-friendly wineries if you want to make a longer loop of it.

When to go. Weekday afternoons are quieter for a relaxed tasting with a dog underfoot; weekends bring more visitors, so book ahead if you want a table with a view. Confirm the current pet policy at booking, as cellar door rules can change with events on site.
