Funk Brewshed

Funk Brewshed is a cider and craft beer maker at 38 Swan Street in Henley Brook, run as a casual, come-as-you-are Swan Valley stop. It is firmly dog friendly, and the official site even name-checks a quiet Friday session with the dog, which tells you how the place sees itself.

The dog setup

Dogs go on the expansive outdoor lawn and alfresco pergola areas rather than indoors, and stay on lead while you visit. The lawn is big enough that a settled dog is not on top of neighbouring tables, and water bowls are usually provided, with staff known to bring out treats. Carry your own bowl as a backup on busy weekends.

The open lawn gets hot in Perth summer, so aim for shade and the cooler part of the day. The venue trades Friday to Sunday only, from 11am, closing at 9pm on Friday and Saturday and 5pm on Sunday.

The vibe

Unpasteurised, preservative-free cider pressed on site is the point, usually ordered as a tasting paddle, with craft beers alongside. The kitchen does casual pub-style food such as pork belly bites, corn ribs and lamb dishes, a kids' menu covers families, and live music features regularly. It is relaxed and family-friendly rather than a polished winery restaurant.

Pepsi: Sunday afternoon is the mellow window here. The lawn fills with families, but there is still room for a dog who needs a bit of space.

Getting there

The Brewshed sits in Henley Brook on the Swan Valley's northern side, with on-site parking and easy access along the valley's main routes from Perth and the Swan Valley food trail. Weekends are the busiest stretch, so booking a table is worthwhile if you want a guaranteed spot on the lawn.

Pair it with

Edgecombe Winery up the road runs a dog-friendly alfresco, and Swan Valley Station is close for a lead-on wander past its attractions. For a proper run afterwards, the Whiteman Park Fenced Dog Park is a short drive south.
