Black Swan Winery & Restaurant

Black Swan Winery and Restaurant is a working vineyard, cellar door and restaurant at 8600 West Swan Road in Henley Brook, deep in the Swan Valley and about 30 minutes from Perth. Dogs are welcome in the rear garden and outdoor dining area, which is exactly where you want to be for a long valley lunch.

The dog setup

Dogs are permitted in the expansive outdoor dining areas and rear garden spaces overlooking the vineyard, but not inside the main restaurant. The rule is a lead at all times, with your dog kept close to the table rather than roaming between groups.

The garden is roomy enough for a dog to settle without being underfoot, and tastings or casual drinks can all be done outdoors where the dog can lounge beside you. Bring your own water bowl and waste bags to be safe, and mention the dog when you book so staff seat you in the right section.

Pepsi: this is a book-first venue on weekends. Call ahead and say the word dog, then aim for a shaded garden table in the cooler part of the day.

Worth knowing

The kitchen leans French and Mediterranean, with lamb rack, barramundi, wagyu rump and pork spring rolls among the regulars, matched to estate-grown reds, whites and fortified wines made from the vineyard on site. Expect a leisurely sit-down meal rather than a quick tasting stop.

Live music days draw a crowd, so if a quieter visit matters, aim for a weekday sitting.

Getting there

The winery sits directly on West Swan Road with on-site parking, which makes it a straightforward drive from Perth or Midland. The main valley road is busy on sunny weekends, so leave buffer time.

Make a loop of it with Edgecombe Winery up the road on Gnangara Road, or burn off some dog energy first at the Little Duck Creek Reserve fenced dog park in Guildford on the way in.
