Gomersal Wines

Gomersal Wines is a small, rustic cellar door on Lyndoch Road in the Barossa Valley, working out of an 1887 building with a sprawling verandah running over the vines. It makes the Barossa Visitor Centre's pet-friendly locations list, and for dogs the setup is straightforward: the verandah is where you want to be anyway.

Dogs on a lead are welcome on the verandah and in the outdoor seating overlooking the vineyards, with water bowls often put out and staff well used to visiting dogs. The indoor tasting space is generally kept for people, so plan on an outside table when you have the dog with you, and mention it when you book so they can hold a suitable spot. Ask for a table at the rail and you can watch the rows while you wait for the platter.

Worth knowing

The list leans traditional and full-bodied, with shiraz the headline act alongside riesling, a grenache rose and GSM blends. Food comes as cheese and wine flights or a regional platter built on local produce, which suits a slow verandah afternoon. Doors open Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, Sunday from 10:30am to 3:30pm, and closed Mondays and Tuesdays; public holiday hours can shift, so call ahead. The venue doubles as a function and wedding site with a Barrel Room, which means weekends and event days bring crowds and less room to spread out with a dog.

Pepsi: a verandah table with a water bowl and vineyard views is about as good as it gets, so time your visit for a quiet weekday morning.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door sits at 203 Lyndoch Road, Gomersal, a few minutes from Lyndoch and a short drive from Tanunda along the valley's southern edge. Parking is free and on site, and both the cellar door and car park are wheelchair accessible.
