Chateau Yaldara

Chateau Yaldara is a historic estate on Hermann Thumm Drive in Lyndoch, at the southern gateway to the Barossa, with a landmark chateau building and lawns running down to the North Para River. It is one of the more dog-welcoming cellar doors in the region, with a published dog policy and water bowls provided - so you know where you stand before you arrive.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome inside the cellar door and on the front lawns, and the policy is specific: leashed at all times, socialised and comfortable around people and other dogs, and toilet-trained. You can buy wine by the glass to enjoy on the front lawn, served in plastic cups outside for safety. Water bowls are provided and there are no dog fees.

Known for. A historic estate founded in 1947 by Hermann Thumm, producing premium Barossa Shiraz, Cabernet and Riesling, with artisan local food for pairing. The riverside grounds and chateau make it a scenic spot to settle on the lawn with a glass and the dog.

Getting there. On Hermann Thumm Drive, directly off the Barossa Valley Way and a short drive from Gawler. On-site parking sits right in front of the chateau.

Nearby with the dogs. Lyndoch village is close for a walk, and Kellermeister and Kies Family Wines are nearby and also welcome leashed dogs, so a full dog-friendly day is easy to plan.

Come on a fine day so you can use the front lawn, keep the dog leashed and settled, and read the posted policy on arrival. Good for sociable, well-mannered dogs happy to lie on the grass by the river.
