Kies Family Wines - Cellar Door Barossa Valley

Kies Family Wines sits on Barossa Valley Way in Lyndoch, a six-generation family cellar door with the Monkey Nut Cafe on site, which makes it one of the more practical Barossa stops when you have a dog and want food as well as a tasting. Dogs of all shapes and sizes are genuinely welcome across the property, not just tolerated.

The dog setup

Leashed, well-behaved dogs can join you in the cellar door during a tasting and at the Monkey Nut Cafe's outdoor seating, where the courtyard looks over the vineyards. The cafe is properly set up for four-legged guests: fresh water bowls, puppuccinos and kangaroo dog treats on offer, plus an enclosed lawn area on-site that gives your dog a secure space to stretch out. Keep them settled around staff and other patrons, and ring ahead on busy days to confirm dog seating.

Worth knowing

Tastings are complimentary and cover Barossa staples: Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with sparkling Shiraz and fortifieds a house specialty. The Monkey Nut Cafe handles the food side with grazing plates, coffee and dessert, open daily from 11am. The atmosphere is relaxed and genuinely family-run rather than polished-commercial, which suits a long, unhurried lunch with the dog. The cellar door runs 9am to 4pm daily, and bookings are generally only needed for larger groups.

Pepsi: the enclosed lawn plus a puppuccino is about as good as a cellar door gets for a dog.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door is on the main Barossa Valley Way in Lyndoch with ample on-site parking; driving is the only realistic way to reach it, so plan a driver if you are tasting. Lyndoch village with its walking paths and cafes is a few minutes away.
