Woodlands Historic Park

Woodlands Historic Park in Greenvale combines open grassy plains, red gum woodland and the 150-year-old Woodlands Homestead, with mobs of kangaroos often in view. Dogs are welcome on a lead, but not everywhere.

Lead rules

Parks Victoria requires dogs on a lead at all times. Dogs are banned from the Conservation Area, known as the Back Paddock, which protects eastern grey kangaroos and bandicoots.

The walk

Tracks are mostly unsealed gravel and dirt with short grassy sections and some gentle inclines, including views from Gellibrand Hill. Eucalypt stretches give shade, while fire breaks and open tracks are exposed.

Water is available near the main picnic and homestead areas, such as the Somerton Road Picnic Area. Bins are near car parks and picnic grounds, not along the tracks, so carry bags and extra water.

Max: Kangaroos graze in mobs here. Keep the lead short and your dog's attention on you when they are close.

Parking is near the main entrances and picnic grounds off Oaklands Road and Somerton Road.

Refuel at Forget Me Not Eatery in Greenvale, or give your dog an off-lead run at Greenvale Recreation Reserve Dog Off Leash Area.

Cooler months suit it best given the exposed sections. Active dogs get the most from the longer tracks and the links to the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail.
