John Coutts Reserve's off-leash area runs along the western side of the reserve in Gladstone Park, next to the Western Ring Road. It's open around the clock and unfenced, a straightforward stretch of grass for local exercise rather than a scenic destination.
The rules. The off-leash zone is available 24 hours a day, but dogs must be under effective voice control at all times since it opens onto other sections of parkland. Outside the marked zone dogs need to be on-leash, and owners must carry bags and clean up immediately. Council rules also call for dogs to be at least six months old, fully vaccinated, wearing current registration tags, and capped at two per person.

What's there. Amenities are basic: waste bins and open grass for running or ball games. Hume City Council has flagged upgrades to the wider reserve, including a kick-about area and bike terrain, which may reshape the off-leash zone over time, so it's worth checking current signage on the day. Walking and cycling links connect through to the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail.
Getting there. The reserve sits between Coates Court and Streeton Court, south of Stewarts Lane. Street parking is easiest along Katrina Drive, and local buses run along Gladstone Park Drive, though most visitors drive.
Nearby with the dogs. Koffy on Carrick Drive is a short drive away and well regarded for its dog-friendly setup, with water bowls and treats on offer. The Gladstone Park Shopping Centre has further cafe options nearby.
The park is quietest around the middle of the day on weekdays, and busiest in the early morning and evening. There's little shade here, so aim for cooler parts of the day in summer.
