Kingsford Smith Ulm Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Kingsford Smith Ulm Reserve's fenced dog park sits on a steep hillside above Moonee Ponds Creek in Glenroy, with double-gated enclosures and a view down the valley toward the heritage-listed railway trestle bridge. Merri-bek City Council opened the new fenced dog park as part of the wider reserve upgrade.

The dog setup

The double-gated fenced sections include basic agility and play equipment, with a water tap and dog bowl nearby and shaded seating at the top level. The wider reserve adds free electric barbecues, picnic shelters, public toilets and a nature play space for kids.

Council rules still apply inside the fence: effective voice or hand control, a leash carried at all times, and your own waste bags. Dogs go back on lead within 15 metres of the playground and barbecues, and are kept out of the creek channel itself.

Worth knowing

This is hill country, not flat ground. The main loop drops sharply to the creek and links into the 7.5km Moonee Ponds Creek shared path, which suits confident dogs and longer walks, while older dogs do better on the flat top-level enclosures. The ground turns slick and muddy through a Melbourne winter, especially on the downhill stretch, so keep a towel in the car.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 81A Loongana Avenue, Glenroy, with street parking along Loongana Avenue and the surrounding side streets. Glenroy and Oak Park stations on the Craigieburn line are a 20 to 30 minute walk, and bus route 513 stops on Pascoe Vale Road.
