Ginifer Reserve's off-leash area sits on Carrick Drive in Gladstone Park, a wide open reserve shared with a sports oval, cricket nets and a pavilion. There's no fence around the dog area, so it's a spot for dogs with solid recall rather than a secure run.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash within the designated area but need to be under effective voice control, since the boundary is open rather than fenced. Leash up again once you're near the oval, playground or any area in active use, and always carry bags for cleanup.

What's there. The reserve has on-site parking, some seating for owners, waste bins, and a scattering of trees for patchy shade. There's no dedicated fencing around the off-leash zone itself, so it suits confident, sociable dogs better than nervous ones or dogs with a strong prey drive.

With no fence and an oval right next to the off-leash zone, keep an eye out for cricket or footy training. Recall matters more here than at a fenced park.

Getting there. The reserve is reached via Carrick Drive off Mickleham Road, with parking along the park's perimeter. Local PTV buses run nearby, but most owners drive given the short walk from the nearest stop.

Nearby with the dogs. Koffy on Carrick Drive is well known locally as dog-friendly, with water bowls and treats for visiting dogs. Pet-friendly motels near Melbourne Airport in Tullamarine are a five to ten minute drive away if you need a place to stay.

Weekday mornings are the quietest time to visit, while Thursday and Saturday evenings draw the biggest crowds. If your dog needs more space to themselves, aim for an early start.
