Greenvale Recreation Reserve's off-leash area, on Section Road, is a big, open reserve with wide gravel tracks and grassy space, built more for a proper run than a quick lap.
The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice control at all times, even off-leash, and owners need to carry a leash for each dog. Pick up after your dog and use the on-site bins. Hume City Council caps it at two dogs per person, requires dogs to be fully vaccinated, and asks that children under 14 not be left supervising a dog alone. Aggressive dogs are not welcome.
What's there. Parking sits south of the main oval with plenty of space. There's a playground in the north-east corner and the reserve backs onto cricket nets, tennis courts, and sporting ovals, so check signage near the playing fields on game days as leash rules can change there. Rubbish bins are dotted around, and the mix of open grass and gravel paths suits both sprinters and sniffers.
Getting there. Easiest by car via Section Road, close to Mickleham Road. Public transport is a stretch: the nearest train stations are Roxburgh Park or Broadmeadows, both needing a connecting bus, so check PTV before relying on transit.
Nearby with the dogs. A run of cafes along Mickleham Road in the Greenvale shopping strip has outdoor seating that welcomes dogs, including Forget Me Not Eatery a short drive away. If you need a bed for the night, pet-friendly motels are more likely in neighbouring Tullamarine or Craigieburn - always call ahead to confirm.

When to go. Saturday mornings and weekday evenings after 5pm draw the biggest crowds, especially out of local sport season. Mid-week mornings are the quiet window. Good for dogs that want real space to stretch out rather than a small fenced yard.
