Westmeadows Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Westmeadows Reserve is an unfenced, open off-leash area within the Broadmeadows Valley Park network, reached off Barry Road, and offers a casual, communal spot for a run rather than a tightly managed enclosure.

The rules. Dogs must be under effective voice control and kept within about 50 metres of their owner. On school days, a leash is required between 8am and 5pm, Monday to Friday, near the school. Dogs must stay on leash and at least 20 metres from playgrounds, and on leash if organised sport is in progress nearby. A maximum of two dogs per person applies, and all dogs must be registered, tagged, and cleaned up after.

What's there. A free car park sits right at the entrance off Barry Road, with flat, accessible paths onto the grass. Waste bins are generally available, though it is worth bringing your own bags as a backup. There is no dog agility equipment or water fountain on site.

Getting there. Access is via Barry Road, Westmeadows, with free on-site parking. Broadmeadows train station is the nearest, a bus trip or short drive away; the reserve also connects into the broader Broadmeadows Valley walking trail network.

Nearby with the dogs. Westmeadows Village on Western Avenue has cafes with outdoor seating, including The Ninth Ave, a short drive from the reserve.

When to go. Weekday afternoons from 4pm and weekend mornings are the busiest. Weekday mornings and early afternoons offer the most open space, good for dogs that want to run or fetch without much interference.
