Westmeadows Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Westmeadows Reserve is an unfenced, open off-leash area within the Broadmeadows Valley Park network, reached off Barry Road. It is a casual, communal run rather than a tightly managed enclosure: flat open grass where local dogs trade laps and owners trade gossip.

The dog setup

Dogs must be under effective voice control and stay within about 50 metres of their owner. The school-day rule matters here: on Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm, leads are required near the school. Dogs also stay on-lead at least 20 metres from playgrounds and whenever organised sport is running nearby. A maximum of two dogs per person applies, all dogs need current registration tags, and you are expected to clean up after them.

Worth knowing

A free car park sits right at the Barry Road entrance with flat, accessible paths onto the grass, and waste bins are generally available, though bringing your own bags as backup is wise. There is no agility equipment and no water fountain, so pack water. Because the space is open and unfenced, dogs will find each other; if yours is not reliably friendly off-lead, keep a lead handy. Weekday afternoons from 4pm and weekend mornings are the busy windows, while weekday mornings and early afternoons leave the most room for fetch.

Getting there and parking

Access is via Barry Road, Westmeadows, with free on-site parking at the entrance. Broadmeadows station is the nearest train stop, a short drive or bus trip away, and the reserve connects into the broader Broadmeadows Valley walking trail network if you want to extend the outing.

Close by with the dogs

The Ninth Ave in the Westmeadows village is the closest dog-friendly coffee stop. For other runs, Willowbrook Reserve and Seabrook Reserve are nearby, and Elmhurst Park Fenced Dog Park offers a secure boundary.
