Dogs on lead around the ponds under ACT public place rules; the nearest off-leash area is Duffy Dog Park.
North Weston Ponds sit on the northern edge of Weston, with sealed paths looping around the water and its wetland plantings. It is an easy, flat walk and dogs stay on lead.
Lead rules
ACT public place rules apply, so dogs must be leashed around the ponds. Urban ponds are not off-leash areas, and the nearest place to let a dog run is the Duffy Dog Park.
The walk
Concrete shared paths circle the ponds, good for prams and older dogs alike. A full circuit with the linking paths is about 1.5 to 2 km.
Waterbirds work the edges of the ponds, and the views stretch out over Weston and the Molonglo Valley.

Carry on to the Coombs Peninsula for a longer outing, then grab a coffee at EightyTwenty Coombs.
Early mornings are calm and good for watching the waterbirds. Bring water for the dog.
