Abode Phillip

Abode Phillip is an apartment-style hotel in the Woden town centre at Phillip, part of the Abode group, and it takes dogs through the chain's formal Pet Package rather than as an informal favour. That makes it one of the more predictable dog-friendly stays in Canberra, as long as you book the right room type and pay the surcharge up front.

Dogs at the Abode

Pets are allowed only in designated pet-friendly rooms and only when you select the Pet Package at booking, and those rooms are subject to availability, so a dog-friendly night here starts with choosing the package rather than assuming at the desk. The surcharge is $50 per pet per night, paid at booking or before check-in, with a maximum of two pets per room, the second pet carrying the same fee. Rooms are self-contained apartment style, which helps with a dog, but bring your own pet bed, as the package covers the room allowance and not dog gear.

The house rules

Pets cannot be left unattended in guest rooms at any time, so plan your days around taking the dog with you or arranging care. Outside your room, they must be on a leash or secured in a carrier in common areas, car parks and grounds, and the standard nuisance and noise conditions apply. For a dog that copes with city bustle, this works; for a dog that howls when alone in a strange room, it will not.

Woden Town Park off Callam Street is the easy on-leash walk from the hotel, keeping ten metres clear of play spaces and BBQs, and the woodland tracks around Garran and Hughes suit a quiet stroll. For a proper fenced run, Weston Creek Dog Park at Duffy is the closest dedicated dog park, a drive across to the western side.
