La Veera Cafe

La Veera Cafe occupies Shop 1, 9 Lyons Place at the Lyons local shops, a recently renovated neighbourhood cafe across from the oval that has become the suburb's all-day kitchen. It opens seven days, pours Seven Miles Black Mountain blend, and keeps a sunny outdoor section where the dog gets a seat while the humans work through a menu of Australian brunch staples and modern lunch plates. Free parking directly out front and a flat, open forecourt make it one of the easier dog stops in the Woden Valley.

The dog setup

Dogs settle at the outdoor footpath and courtyard tables in front of the cafe; the indoor room stays humans-only, as is standard across ACT hospitality. Staff are used to dogs and usually bring a water bowl without being chased. The tables sit beside an open walkway with prams and regulars passing, so a short lead and a dog tucked close to the chair keeps everyone comfortable.

The menu

Breakfast runs from a hearty Big Breakfast and bacon and egg rolls through eggs Benedict, and lunch covers chef-crafted plates, gourmet burgers, fresh salads and lighter bites, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free adjustments handled without fuss. Hours are 7am to 2pm Monday to Friday and 7:30am to 2:30pm on weekends, so it is breakfast and lunch only; the front tables catch the morning sun, which matters on a Canberra winter morning.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the Lyons shops at 9 Lyons Place, with a paved car park directly in front that is free and rarely full on weekdays. Access from the car park to the outdoor seating is flat and step-free, and the loop around the oval opposite is an easy warm-up or cool-down lap with the dog still on lead.

Close by with the dogs

Little Billy's in Weston is the next dog-friendly coffee stop west, and Lil Milkbar in Mawson works on the eastern side of the valley. For a proper off-lead run, Weston Creek's fully fenced dog park over the hill has separate large and small dog enclosures, though note the playing fields around Curtin are informal spaces that depend on sport not being booked.
