The Pour House Espresso

The Pour House Espresso is a small specialty espresso bar on Athllon Drive in Phillip, on the edge of the Woden Town Centre. It runs on quality coffee and quick bites, and like most Canberra footpath cafes, the dog-friendly part of the deal is the outdoor seating out front.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the footpath tables outside, not in the indoor seating area. Ground-level access means you can pull up straight off a walk, and staff are generally happy to bring out a water bowl if you ask. The footpath sits right on a busy stretch of road, so keep the lead short and position your dog on the inside, away from the kerb.

The draw is the coffee, backed by almond options, bacon and egg rolls and other quick bites. Reviewers call out the fresh feel and friendly baristas, so a calm dog at your feet will not feel out of place. It is a compact spot though, and the outdoor seating is limited enough to fill during the weekday morning rush. Hours run 6:30am to 3pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm Saturday, with Sundays closed.

Getting there and parking

The espresso bar sits on Athllon Drive near the Phillip shopping precinct. Street parking is available out front, with public parking through the wider Woden centre, and it is an easy walk from the surrounding Phillip and Woden streets.

Make a day of it

Phillip Oval and the open space around the Woden centre are close for a leg-stretch before or after your coffee, and the paved paths through the business district make an easy on-leash loop. For a bigger outing, the walking trails of the Tuggeranong Hill nature reserve are a short drive south.
