Davies Park

Davies Park is a riverside park in West End, next door to Highgate Hill, bounded by Montague Road and the Brisbane River. It is strictly on-lead, and Brisbane City Council has ruled out an off-lead area here.

Lead rules

Dogs must stay on a lead at all times. The park mixes sports fields with open space, and the council decided off-lead use does not fit that layout.

The walk

You get wide grass fields, towering old fig trees and concrete and bitumen paths along the riverfront, with views over the Milton and Toowong reaches. The shared paths run straight into the wider riverside walking and cycling network, so stretching it into a longer walk is easy.

The figs and other mature trees shade parts of the bank and perimeter paths. There are taps and bubblers around the grounds and bins along the paths, but carry water for the dog in the warmer months.

Parking is off Montague Road beside the sports fields, with street parking around the edges.

Make a day of it

For an off-lead run afterwards, Dutton Park Fenced Dog Park is close by, and Coffee on Gladstone in Highgate Hill is an easy coffee stop.

Who it suits

Locals use it for morning and afternoon strolls, and the flat, open ground suits older dogs. It is a good pick for anyone after a calm on-lead walk with a river view.
