Perrin Park Dog Recreation Area (Large Dogs)

The Perrin Park Dog Recreation Area for large dogs sits inside Perrin Park at the corner of Josling Street and Birdwood Terrace in Toowong, a fully fenced off-leash run set aside specifically for bigger dogs with a separate small dog area alongside. It has the feel of a proper neighbourhood dog club, with a regular local crowd and a social evening scene.

The dog setup

This section is for larger dogs only, with double-gate entries at the fence line. Make sure both gates are secure before you unclip, and keep small dogs in their own area across the way. Open grass gives room to run, a sand patch absorbs the diggers, and water troughs keep drinks topped up. Owners get undercover seating, and public toilets sit nearby in the wider park.

Brisbane City Council rules apply: dogs registered, under effective control even inside the fence, and cleaned up after. Reactive dogs should stay on leash or be walked somewhere quieter. The area is lit, which makes early morning and evening visits workable year round.

Max: the park can get muddy after heavy rain, so it is worth a towel in the car if you have been out here after a downpour.

The vibe

The regulars are a social bunch and the big-dog section tends to fill with confident, well-matched playmates. Sunday and Tuesday afternoons are the busiest slots. If your dog prefers a calmer run, weekday mornings or Wednesday evenings are the better bet.

Getting there and parking

On-street parking runs along Josling Street, and several Moggill Road bus routes stop within a short walk. It is an easy walk from the surrounding Toowong and Auchenflower streets if you are local.

Close by with the dogs

The Anzac Park fenced dog park on Dean Street is the other main Toowong option with its own large and small sections, and the Lex Ord South dog off-leash park at St Lucia is a short drive over the river. Nowhere Espresso does coffee and pizza with dogs welcome, and Toowong Villas on Ascog Terrace takes pets in rooms on request if you are staying in the area.
