Carawa Street Park's fenced dog off-leash area sits in a quiet residential pocket of St Lucia, a short stroll from the Hawken Drive shops. It is fully enclosed, open 24 hours, and small enough for a quick run rather than a long ramble.

The rules. Dogs may run off-leash only inside the fenced area itself. Leash up before entering and after leaving, keep your dog under voice control at all times, and carry your own waste bags even if a dispenser is stocked. Dogs must be registered with Brisbane City Council, and restricted breeds are not permitted.

What's there. The fenced area has concrete paths, bench and sandstone-block seating, mature trees for shade, and a water station for dogs. It suits smaller dogs or a fast play session more than an all-morning outing.

Getting there. The park is at 5 Carawa Street. Street parking on Carawa Street is limited, so expect to walk a block or two on busy afternoons. Bus stops on Carmody Road and Hawken Drive are a short walk away.

Nearby with the dogs. Saint and Co on Hawken Drive is a dog-friendly local cafe for a coffee afterward, and the UQ riverside paths are a few minutes further on for a longer walk.

Max's takegerman shepherd
leash on before the gate, leash on after, every time. It is a small enclosure and it fills up fast after 5pm on weeknights.

When to go. Weekday mid-mornings and early afternoons are quietest. Evenings after 5pm and weekend mornings draw the local after-work and after-class crowd, so go earlier if your dog prefers space to itself.
