Faulkner Park Fenced Dog Park

Faulkner Park's fenced dog park at 80 Waratah Ave, Graceville is a proper off-leash setup on the bend of the Brisbane River: two separate grassy enclosures for big and small dogs, agility equipment, water stations and views over the water, open 24 hours a day.

The dog setup

Small and large dogs get their own fenced zones with a buffer between them, so a nervous or tiny dog is not dodging boisterous larger ones. The big-dog enclosure has open grass for sprinting plus agility and obstacle gear to burn off extra energy.

The fenced area is off-leash but still shared space, so dogs need to stay under effective voice control, in heat or unwell dogs should stay home, and any dog showing aggression gets leashed and taken out. Bins are provided for waste.

Worth knowing

Use the double-gated entry properly: close one gate before opening the other, and check both are shut before you unclip the lead. The park backs onto a playground with a flying fox, a half basketball court and the netball courts, useful if you have kids in tow, though weekend netball carnivals fill the nearby street parking.

Max: double-gated entries only work if people treat them as double-gated. Check the outer gate has latched before you swing the inner one open.

Getting there and parking

Street parking lines Waratah Avenue and Leybourne Street around the park. Sherwood and Graceville train stations are both roughly a kilometre away through quiet suburban streets, and local bus routes cover the area, so it is a realistic no-car outing.

Close by with the dogs

Graceville's cafe strip has dog-friendly footpath seating a short walk away, including Ananas Espresso, Fraiche Deli and Honour Espresso.

When to go

Weekend and mornings are the busiest window. Weekday afternoons and evenings are quieter, with more room for a big dog to properly stretch its legs.
