Lex Ord South Dog Off Leash Park

Lex Ord Park South's dog off-leash area is a fully fenced, double-gated run of around 2,500 square metres off Indooroopilly Road in St Lucia, close to the river and the St Lucia Golf Links. In a leafy suburb with limited open space, it is the local fenced run of choice for St Lucia, Taringa and Indooroopilly dog owners.

The dog setup

Off-leash applies only inside the fenced perimeter; everywhere else in the wider park, dogs stay on lead under Brisbane City Council rules. The double-gated entry stops accidental escapes, and inside there are park benches, shaded cover, a water tap with bowl and council waste bins at the entry points, with bag dispensers on site.

The standard council conditions apply: dogs need to be registered with the council, supervised and under effective control, and you leash up and leave if play turns rough. Playgrounds and picnic or barbecue areas nearby are off limits to dogs.

Worth knowing

The enclosure sits close to the river catchment, and the low-lying grassy patches can turn boggy after heavy rain, so check the ground before unclipping following a big downpour. Visibility from Indooroopilly Road is good, which helps with parking-lot introductions, and the run is large enough for a proper chase rather than a standing-around session.

Getting there and parking

The park is at 240 Indooroopilly Road. Street parking along Indooroopilly Road works outside peak times but tightens in the early morning and late afternoon. Several bus routes run along nearby Hawken Drive, and the University of Queensland riverside is a short ride away.

When to go

Early mornings from 6am to 8am and late afternoons from about 4.30pm to 6pm draw the regular crew and give your dog a social run; mid-morning is quieter if you have a dog that prefers space. Weekends are busy throughout the middle of the day.
