Lex Ord South Dog Off Leash Park

Lex Ord Park South's dog off-leash area is a fully fenced, double-gated space of around 2,500 square metres off Indooroopilly Road in St Lucia, close to the river and the St Lucia Golf Links. It gives dogs a genuine off-leash run in a suburb with limited open space.

The rules. Off-leash only applies inside the fenced perimeter. Everywhere else in the wider park, dogs must be on lead and under effective voice control. Dogs need to be microchipped and registered with Brisbane City Council, and playgrounds and picnic/barbecue areas are off-limits to dogs. Carry your own waste bags and clean up immediately.

What's there. Double-gated entry stops accidental escapes, and the fenced area has park benches, some shaded seating, a water tap and bowl, and council waste bins at the entry points.

Getting there. The park is at 240 Indooroopilly Road. Street parking along Indooroopilly Road is workable outside peak times but tightens up in the early morning and late afternoon. Several bus routes run along Hawken Drive nearby; check Translink for the closest stop from your start point.

Nearby with the dogs. Saint Lucy Caffe e Cucina, near the UQ tennis courts by the river, is a short walk for a coffee with the dog after a run. Saint and Co on Hawken Drive is another easy option.

When to go. Early mornings from 6am to 8am and late afternoons from 4.30pm to 6pm are the busiest, when locals exercise dogs before or after work. Mid-morning and early afternoon on weekdays are quieter if your dog prefers fewer other dogs around.
