Picnic Point Parklands sits on the edge of the escarpment in Rangeville, Toowoomba, with long views over the Lockyer Valley to the Main Range. Dogs are welcome on every path, but on lead at all times.
Lead rules
Toowoomba Regional Council requires dogs to be leashed on the walking tracks and the open lawns alike.
The walk
Paved paths run around the crest and lookout, then connect to formed dirt, rock and gravel bushland tracks down the escarpment. You can keep it a gentle stroll on top or head into the bush for a longer outing.
The views east reach Table Top Mountain, and the 65-hectare reserve has plenty of mature trees and shaded paths.
Max: The best views are right at the escarpment edge. Keep the lead short there and let the view be the only thing going over.
Getting started
Parking is off Tourist Road near Lions Park and at Heller Street Park. Drinking fountains and bins are around the main park areas.
Make a day of it
In town, BURROW Cafe on Bridge Street and 95 Mary Street in East Toowoomba are good coffee stops.
The shade holds up well in the afternoon. Weekends are busy and social, so go on a weekday for a quieter walk.
