Picnic Point Toowoomba

Picnic Point sits on the edge of the Toowoomba escarpment at 164 Tourist Road, and it is really two venues in one: a parkland of shaded lawns and walking tracks looking out over the Lockyer Valley to Table Top Mountain, and a cafe whose alfresco terrace lets your dog share the lookout. The parklands carry several walking tracks, including a longer fire trail that suits a proper leg-stretch before or after a meal, plus plenty of shade and grass if you would rather picnic than order. Expect company: it is a favourite with families and photographers, so weekends and clear days draw crowds. Hours run 8:30am to 5pm weekdays and 8am to 5pm weekends. Early morning is the best window for cool air, easy parking and a sharp view before the haze builds.

Getting there and parking

The cafe and lookout sit on the Rangeville side of Toowoomba, a short drive from the CBD, with large free car parks right beside the lookout. Parking is rarely the problem here; the crowds are. Arrive early and you will get both a car space and a terrace table.
