Picnic Point Toowoomba

Picnic Point sits on the edge of the Toowoomba escarpment, and the draw is the view: lawns and shaded picnic areas looking out over the Lockyer Valley and Table Top Mountain, with a cafe whose alfresco terrace lets dogs share the lookout. Good to know. The parkland has several walking tracks, including a longer fire trail, that suit a proper leg-stretch before or after a meal. There is plenty of shade and grass for a picnic. It is a popular family and photography spot, so expect company on weekends and in good weather.

Getting there and parking. The address is 164 Tourist Road, on the Rangeville side of Toowoomba, a short drive from the CBD. Large free car parks sit right beside the lookout and cafe, so parking is rarely the problem here; crowds are.

Nearby with the dogs. Lake Annand Park in Rangeville is close by for another scenic on-leash walk, and Queens Park near the city centre has wide lawns and on-leash paths. Both make easy add-ons to a Picnic Point morning.

When to go. Early morning is best for cool air, parking and a clear valley view before the haze and the crowds build. Pack water; the range gets warm and exposed by midday.
