Redwood Park

Redwood Park covers a slice of the Great Dividing Range escarpment in Redwood, on Toowoomba's edge, and its dense forest makes it one of the shadiest places around town to walk a dog. It is on-lead only.

Lead rules

Toowoomba Regional Council requires dogs on a lead at all times here, as in all of its bushland parks. There is no off-lead section.

The walk

Tracks are natural dirt, gravel and grass, a mix of singletrack and wider multi-use trail through tall eucalypts, grass trees and brush box. The Redwood Forest Walk and a rainforest walking circuit are the shaded options, and the terrain is rugged in places.

Max: Brush turkeys are busy scratching in here. Keep the lead short so a bird in the leaf litter doesn't become a lunge.

Getting started

Park at the bush picnic area in the south-eastern corner, off the Toowoomba Connection Road, where there is a compost toilet. There is no dog water on the tracks and bins are limited, so bring water, a bowl and bags to carry out.

Pair it with

Back in the city, Ground Up Cafe and Quarter Acre are easy stops after the walk.

When to go

The heavy canopy keeps it cooler than the suburbs, which makes it a good summer choice. It suits sure-footed dogs that walk well on a lead.
