Barossa Bushgardens

Barossa Bushgardens is a native garden walk on Research Road in Nuriootpa, not Seppeltsfield as it is sometimes listed. Dogs are welcome on a lead, and there is even a drinking fountain just for them.

Leads in the gardens

The Barossa Council requires dogs to stay on a lead at all times here. That makes for a calm, predictable walk, well suited to reactive or older dogs.

Bring your own bags and pick up after your dog, as waste has to be carried out.

The walk

Formed, wheelchair-accessible paths wind through regional native plantings and themed displays, including the Dementia Friendly Garden, the Fire-Wise Garden and the Eremophila Garden. Seats with backrests line the way for a breather.

The paths run straight into Coulthard Reserve and the Nuriootpa Linear Park trails, so a short stroll can stretch into a much longer walk.

Pepsi: Head for the fountain beside the Old Gum Tree. It is there for thirsty dogs, and after a lap of the gardens it is the best stop of the day.

Elsewhere in the valley, Canteen Barossa and Rehn Bier Brewery make a good post-walk stop.

Toilets and a baby change table are next to the Volunteer Centre. The flat, formed paths suit older dogs and anyone who prefers a quiet garden walk to a busy off-lead park.
