Lambton Park

Lambton Park sits in Lambton, just over the line from New Lambton, bounded by Elder and Morehead streets. Its flat paved circuit of about 1.6 kilometres, under big old trees, is an easy on-lead walk.

Lead rules

The City of Newcastle requires dogs to be on lead throughout the park. Keep at least 10 metres from the children's playgrounds, where dogs are not allowed, and steer clear of busy picnic areas.

The walk

Wide asphalt and concrete paths loop past open lawns, a classic band rotunda and the heritage Lambton Library. Mature trees along Howe Street and inside the grounds give generous shade.

There are bubblers near the pool and pavilion, but carry a bottle for the dog. Bins line the perimeter, and street parking is easy on Howe, Morehead and Parker streets.

Make a day of it

New Lambton's village cafes are close by, including Corner Lane Espresso and Rosie and Shell. For off-lead time, head to Adamstown Dog Off-Leash Area.

When to go

The smooth, flat circuit suits older or recovering dogs. On hot days the shaded inner paths are the pick.
