First Light Lambton

First Light Lambton occupies the heritage-restored 1940s former Lambton Baby Health Centre inside Lambton Park on Elder Street, and the position is the whole appeal for dog owners. A designated front garden takes dogs, with parkland starting right outside the gate, so a walk and a breakfast fold into one outing.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the designated front garden area only; they are not permitted on the deck. Keep yours leashed, well-behaved and under control, which is also the rule across Lambton Park itself. The garden gets busy on weekends, so arrive early for a table with room to settle a dog.

The vibe

The building is light-filled and modern behind its heritage bones, and the kitchen runs a seasonal breakfast and lunch menu built on locally sourced produce from regional farmers, with good vegetarian and vegan coverage. Coffee comes from Newcastle roasters Floozy, and the First Light Smash is the order regulars name. Reviews keep circling back to the friendly service and the sunny garden setting.

The kitchen serves 7am to 3pm daily, with drinks and cakes through to 4pm, so the garden keeps filling long after breakfast.

Close by with the dogs
