What visitors mention
The short version. Adamstown's off-leash area is an open, largely natural green space at West End Park on Dora Road, backing onto the railway line. It is time-restricted and unfenced, so it rewards dogs with reliable recall and owners who watch the clock.
The rules. This is a timed off-leash area under City of Newcastle rules, not all-day. Dogs may be off-leash from sunrise to 9:00 am and again from 5:00 pm to sunset. Outside those windows dogs must be on lead. Your dog must stay under effective control and come back on command, waste must be picked up, and declared dangerous, menacing and restricted-breed dogs are not permitted.
What is there. It is a big, quiet, open field rather than a fitted-out dog park. Expect some bench seating and bins, but no fencing. There is an uncovered drain on site, so keep an eye on where your dog roams.
Getting there. The park is on Dora Road, Adamstown, with street parking usually available. Adamstown train station is close, so it is walkable if you are coming by rail.
Watch-outs. The lack of a fence is the main one, with the railway corridor alongside, so this is not the spot for a dog that bolts. The open drain is the other thing to note underfoot.

When to go. The two off-leash windows are also the busiest, with locals in early morning and post-work walkers from 5:00 pm. For a reactive or anxious dog, the quieter edges of those windows are your friend. Outside them you can still walk the space on lead.
