What visitors mention
Acacia Avenue Reserve is Newcastle's first fully fenced off-leash dog park, more than 8,000 square metres split into two secure sections so boisterous dogs and smaller or shyer ones each get their own space. It sits in North Lambton with double-gated entries, so leads can come off the moment you're through the second gate.
The rules. The park is fenced and off-leash within its boundaries, but owners must stay in the park and keep dogs under watch the whole time. Remove a dog straight away if it turns aggressive with others. There is no on-site bin supply you can rely on, so bring your own poo bags.
What's there. Two separate fenced zones (large/active dogs and small/less active dogs), double-gated entry points, a dog drinking water station, shaded seating under mature trees, and off-street parking.
Getting there. The reserve is reached off local streets near Croudace Street and Hobart Road in North Lambton, with off-street parking on site. Bus stops on Croudace Street give a walkable option if you're not driving.
Watch-outs. The ground can turn muddy after heavy rain, so factor in a towel or a change of paws if you're visiting straight after a downpour.
Nearby with the dogs. First Light Lambton (75 Elder St) and CRUMB (113 Elder St) both have outdoor seating popular with dog owners and are a few minutes' drive away in Lambton. Too Hands, Rosie & Shell and Corner Lane Espresso in New Lambton also welcome dogs at outdoor tables.

Early mornings and early evenings, especially on weekends, are the busiest windows. For a calmer visit, aim for a weekday mid-morning or early afternoon, when there's more room for timid or reactive dogs to warm up.
