Spring Mountain Recreational Trail

Spring Mountain Recreational Trail runs through Spring Mountain Reserve off Tully Connection Road in Greenbank, a stretch of open eucalyptus bushland on Logan's southern fringe with wide multi-use tracks and a gentle climb. Walkers, trail runners and the Saturday Greenbank parkrun crowd all use it, and dogs are welcome on lead the whole way, which makes it one of the better structured bushwalks south of Brisbane for anyone with a leash in hand.

The walk

The main circuit is roughly 2.5 kilometres on a mix of dirt track and paved section, with gentle inclines rather than technical climbing, and links into the wider track network if you want to stretch towards 5 kilometres. It suits a solid morning walk more than a quick lap, and the open bushland gives you good sightlines through most of the route.

Leash status

Dogs stay on a short, handheld lead for the entire reserve; off-lead running is not permitted. If you are following the parkrun route, only short fixed leads are allowed, no retractable leads, for safety around the runners. And note the boundary matters: the neighbouring White Rock and Spring Mountain conservation estate is dog-prohibited, so stick to the designated recreation reserve paths.

Water and hazards

Bring a travel bowl and your own supply, as there is no reliable dog-safe water on the trail itself. The reserve is home to kangaroos, koalas and ground-nesting birds, so keeping your dog on the marked track matters as much as the leash rule here. Wildlife is most active at dawn and dusk, which is exactly when you want extra vigilance. Tracks can be rough in patches after rain, so check footing on the downhill stretches.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Tully Connection Road, with a free gravel car park on site. It is about ten minutes' drive from central Greenbank and twenty from Browns Plains. Public transport does not reach this semi-rural stretch, so driving is the only realistic option. Around the trailhead you will find electric barbecues, picnic tables, public toilets, a playground, a basketball court and outdoor fitness stations.

Max: Saturday mornings between 7 and 9 belong to the Greenbank parkrun. If you would rather not thread a dog through a few hundred runners, walk earlier or pick another day.
