Ivory's Rock

Ivory's Rock is a 635-hectare bushland property at 310 Mount Flinders Road, Peak Crossing, about 20 minutes south of Ipswich, and it welcomes dogs across its camping and caravan grounds. The one distinction that shapes a stay here: dogs are allowed on campsites only, never in the cabins or other fixed accommodation, so if the dog is coming, you are camping.

The park's published pet policy sets the terms clearly. The limit is two dogs per campsite with a one person to one dog ratio, and extra dogs need prior approval. Dogs stay on a leash and under control at all times, and the venue enforces it strictly: a second off-lead offence means being asked to leave. Pets cannot be left unattended, they are barred from common areas and the amenity blocks, waste goes in sealed bags into the designated bins, and Queensland's prohibited dog breeds are not permitted. Horses can be accommodated on request by contacting management ahead of your stay.

Worth knowing

Outside of major events, guests rate the peace and the space highly, with generously sized grass sites across campgrounds like Jacaranda and Sandy Creek, powered and unpowered, for tents, camper trailers and caravans. Powered sites start from around $45 a night for up to six guests. Amenities are a step above most bush camps: modern shower and toilet blocks with private bathroom options, camp kitchens with gas barbecues, laundry facilities, water taps and fire pits for hire. The property doubles as a major event venue, so check the calendar before booking if you want a quiet stay with the dog.

Getting there and parking

From Brisbane the drive is about 45 minutes. Head through Ipswich and follow the Ipswich-Boonah Road south, then turn onto Mount Flinders Road. You park at your site, and the scale of the property means most sites feel well away from the neighbours.

Close by with the dogs

Coming through Ipswich, Cafe Tulmur is the dog-friendly coffee stop, and the Sara Drive Dog Park at Yamanto gives the dog a final off-lead run before the leash goes on for the property. The Yamanto Tavern is a practical dinner break on the same stretch.
