Sara Drive Dog Park is a fully fenced, off-leash park on Jacaranda Drive in Yamanto, open 24 hours a day and popular as a local socialising spot for suburban Ipswich dogs.

The rules. The park is off-leash inside the fenced boundary, but dogs need to be leashed on the way in and out, and kept under effective voice control the whole time. Aggressive or reactive dogs should be leashed and removed straight away. Pick up after your dog, waste bags are usually stocked on site.

What's there. Fully fenced, open grassy space good for fetch and running, with shaded seating for owners. Free parking is available nearby on Jacaranda Drive.

Getting there. Off Warwick Road (A15), about 10 to 15 minutes from Ipswich CBD via the Cunningham Highway. Local buses run along Warwick Road with a short walk in from the stop.

Nearby with the dogs. Rafter and Rose on Ellenborough Street and St Shoebill on Brisbane Street, both in Ipswich CBD, have outdoor seating that welcomes dogs. Quest Ipswich, a few kilometres away, is a pet-friendly apartment-style stay worth checking for longer visits.

Even inside the fence, keep an eye on the gate area on busy afternoons, dogs coming and going on lead can bunch up right at the entry.

Sunday afternoons and Thursday mornings and evenings are the busiest times. Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings are quieter, good if your dog needs a calmer introduction.
