Berry Walk Trail Waterfall (8)

Berry Walk Trail leads through F.R. Berry Reserve in Gidgegannup, a 2.7km one-way track through jarrah and marri forest to a red rock outcrop and seasonal waterfall on Wooroloo Brook. It is a moderate walk with some steep, rocky sections, and it is at its best from mid-autumn to late spring when the creek is running.

The walk. 2.7km one-way (5.4km return), roughly 45 minutes to an hour each way. Expect short steep hills, rocky steps and uneven ground, so it suits dogs that are comfortable off smooth paths.

Leash status. Dogs are allowed on-leash. Keep them close on the rockier sections and around the brook, both for footing and for the local wildlife.

Water. Wooroloo Brook flows through the reserve and pools near the falls in the wetter months, useful for a paddle or a drink, but it can run low or dry over summer, so bring your own water regardless.

Watch-outs. Dieback disease has been recorded in the park. Stay on the formed trail rather than cutting across vegetation, and if you are moving between bushland areas afterwards, spraying boots (and paws if practical) with a diluted methylated spirits solution helps stop it spreading. Fires are not permitted at any time of year.

What's there. Gravel parking at the trailhead, free electric barbecues and public toilets, useful for a picnic before or after the walk.

Getting there. From Perth, head northeast via the Great Eastern Highway onto Toodyay Road towards Gidgegannup, then turn onto Reen Road and follow it about 8.5km to the F.R. Berry Reserve signage. There is no public transport out this way, so it is a drive-in trail only.

Nearby with the dogs. Noble Falls Tavern is a short drive back towards Toodyay Road and takes leashed dogs in its beer garden, a good spot for a counter meal after the walk. Gidgegannup Bakery on Toodyay Road also has outdoor seating for a coffee stop.

When to go. Weekday mornings or an early weekend start keep the car park and picnic spots free. Aim for the months after winter and spring rain for the waterfall to actually be running, and confirm dieback signage on arrival since conditions change.
