Kananook Creek Trail

Kananook Creek Trail runs about 7.5 kilometres through Seaford and Frankston, linking the Seaford Wetlands to the Frankston Foreshore near the pier. It is a green creek corridor rather than a suburban footpath, and dogs must stay on lead.

Lead rules

Frankston City Council requires dogs on a lead at all times, and on the constructed paths, to protect the creek and wetland habitat. There is no off-lead area along the trail.

The walk

Surfaces change as you go, from concrete and timber boardwalk to compacted gravel and dirt. Eucalypts and melaleucas shade much of the way, and waterbirds nest along the creek.

The trail also joins the wider Three Waters Walk network, so you can lengthen or shorten the outing.

Water and parking

Water on the creek track is limited, so bring your own for the dog. Bins cluster at access points such as Broughton Street Reserve and Riviera Street, and there is parking at several entry points.

For off-lead running afterwards, Banyan Reserve Dog Off Leash Area is in neighbouring Carrum Downs.

The shade makes it a sound summer choice, and dogs who love birds and smells will get plenty out of it.
