Wattle Park

Just over the Canterbury line in Burwood, Wattle Park is a big heritage bush park under gum and wattle canopy, with old W-class trams parked among the trees. Parks Victoria keeps it on lead everywhere, which makes it a calm walk for nervous or reactive dogs.

Lead rules

Dogs must be on a lead at all times throughout the park. There are no off-lead areas, so save the free running for somewhere else.

The walk

An undulating circuit of about 3.25 kilometres loops the park on gravel, hard-packed and paved tracks. Allow roughly 30 minutes to an hour, passing grassy picnic patches and the heritage Chalet on the way.

Water and shade

Gums and mature pines give plenty of shade, a real help in summer. Water is limited, so bring a bottle and bowl.

Bins sit around the picnic grounds and main entries, and free parking is available off the main entry points.

Make a day of it

When to go

The hills and shade make this a good loop in any season. The on-lead rule keeps it predictable, which suits dogs still in training.
