Sunshine Coast Motor Lodge

Sunshine Coast Motor Lodge is a family-run motel at 279 Nambour Connection Road, Woombye, with two designated pet-friendly rooms and an actual pet set-up rather than a grudging dogs-tolerated policy. Sitting just off the Bruce Highway, it works as a base for both the Sunshine Coast hinterland and the beaches.

The two pet-friendly rooms are a queen room for up to two guests and a twin-share room for up to three, and they must be requested at booking rather than added on arrival. A $50 pet services fee applies per reservation. Well-behaved dogs of any size are accepted, with big dogs generally fine. Pets cannot be left unattended in the room or restrained outside, and dogs stay leashed around the grounds and footpaths.

What the lodge supplies

This is where it differs from most motels: water bowls, treats and one dog bed per booking are provided, with extras available subject to stock. Rooms come with a kitchenette, there is a small outdoor pet area at the back of the property, and the shared facilities take in a saltwater pool, BBQ area and on-site parking right outside your room.

Max: Only two rooms take pets, so name the pet room when you book rather than assuming one will be free at the desk.

Close by with the dogs

Woombye CWA Park is an easy on-leash stroll, though it is not an off-leash park, so keep the lead on around the playground and picnic tables. For proper off-lead time, the Nambour Dog Agility Park on Howard Street runs 24-hour off-leash with agility equipment, and the Petrie Park Dog Off Leash Area alongside Petrie Creek is a few minutes north. On the coast side, Shelly Beach and Point Cartwright Reserve at Buddina have designated off-leash areas for a beach day. In town, Kimnat Cafe does Woombye's morning coffee and The Woombye Pub is the local for dinner.

It suits owners who want the bedding, bowls and treats handled for them and a central position between the hinterland towns and the coast.
