Whispering Trees

Whispering Trees is the lower level of a renovated beach house in a quiet cul-de-sac at Point Lookout, managed by Discover Stradbroke and listed as pet friendly. It backs onto natural bushland, sleeps six across three bedrooms, and is a short walk to pet-friendly Home Beach and the Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel, which makes it one of the more practical dog bases on North Stradbroke Island.

Dogs are allowed to stay overnight, but the property asks that you let them know before arrival and additional charges may apply. The critical catch is that there is no secure fencing: the bush the house backs onto is home to local wildlife, so dogs need close supervision or lead control outside, and wildlife-aware owners should weigh that before booking. A damage deposit of AUD 1,000 is required and the house runs a strict no-party policy. Confirm the pet fee and any size or breed conditions directly with Discover Stradbroke when booking, since the public listing does not spell out every detail.

The house

It is a budget-friendly, whole-house booking: three bedrooms (queen, double and two singles), one bathroom, an open-plan living and kitchen area with dishwasher, laundry with washing machine, air conditioning throughout and Wi-Fi. Linen, bath towels and an amenities starter pack are included. The upper level of the home sits vacant when booked, so the stay is entirely private. A yard and a bush outlook round it out for a family or group travelling with a dog.

Getting there and on the sand

Point Lookout is reached via the vehicle or passenger ferries to the island, then a drive across to the Point Lookout side. From the house it is a short walk to the Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel and Home Beach.

Close by with the dogs

Home Beach has a roughly 1km designated off-leash stretch between Rocky Point and the headland near the hotel, per Redland City Council, and dogs can swim there. Main Beach and Frenchman's Beach are not off-leash, and there are no bag dispensers on the island, so bring your own waste bags.
