GJ Walter Park Beach Dog Off Leash Area

GJ Walter Park is a bayside park at Cleveland with a large, partially fenced grassed area that runs straight down onto a shallow sandy beach on Moreton Bay, looking across to North Stradbroke Island. The appeal is the direct water access for dogs who like a swim, paired with plenty of open grass to run.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash only within the council-signed area, so check the Redland City Council signage for the exact boundary before you unclip. The area is partially fenced, not fully enclosed from the road and pathways, so reliable recall matters here. Keep your dog under effective control, and clean up using the bag dispensers provided.

The water. This is a tidal bay beach, and that changes everything about your visit. At high tide there is clean, shallow water to swim in; at low tide it drains to extensive mudflats rather than a beach, so time your trip around the tide if swimming is the point. Rinse your dog after a salt swim.

What's there. Sheltered seating, public BBQs, shady trees and dog bag dispensers. There are water bowls, but they are not always filled, so bring your own water.

Getting there. The park is on Shore Street East, near the Raby Bay foreshore, with parking nearby. Cleveland Station is the closest train stop, then a short walk or taxi.

When to go. Weekends and the early-morning and late-afternoon windows are busiest. Aim for a rising or high tide on a mild day for the best swim. Good for water-loving dogs with solid recall.
