Pioneer Park Off-Leash Area (Lamb Island)

The off-leash area at Pioneer Park on Lucas Drive gives Lamb Island a quiet, grassed space for open running, well away from major traffic. It is a simple community park rather than a fenced facility, so it suits dogs with solid recall rather than those who tend to wander once unclipped.

The dog setup

The designated off-leash zone is unfenced and marked by signage, per Redland City Council's listings. There is open grass to run on, an Ecosac bag dispenser with a disposal bin, and a drinking water station near the tennis courts. There is no shaded seating and no bowls inside the off-leash zone itself, so a portable bowl and a filled bottle are part of the kit, with the tap as your refill point.

The rules at the park

Dogs must be under effective voice control and return immediately when called, with a leash carried at all times. Leash up until you are inside the designated zone and again the moment you leave. Keep dogs at least 10 metres from playgrounds and fitness equipment, keep them from disturbing wildlife, and leash and remove any dog showing aggression. Dogs are prohibited from the foreshore directly in front of the island's public swimming enclosures.

Pepsi: no bowl in the off-leash zone makes a collapsible bowl non-negotiable, and the tap near the tennis courts is a refill stop, not a drinking station.

Getting there and parking

Lamb Island is one of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, reached via the SeaLink passenger ferry from Redland Bay. Dogs are allowed on board but must stay on lead and muzzled, or travel in a carrier, and the rule applies inside the terminals too. Residents typically barge vehicles across; visitors generally walk or cycle from the jetty up to the park on Lucas Drive, which sits centrally on the island.

Worth knowing

Shade is limited and the island has very few commercial dining options, so pack a picnic and bring everything the dog needs. Any dog without reliable recall should stay on lead for the visit. If you plan to walk the shoreline afterwards, check the tide chart first.
