Macleay island dog Park

Macleay Island Dog Park sits on the Attunga Street foreshore, a fully fenced off-leash area with natural tree shade and water views. It is a modest, community-scale park rather than a flagship destination, but for island locals and visitors bringing a dog across on the ferry it is the easiest place to let one off the lead.

The dog setup

Redland City Council lists Attunga Street Park as fully fenced, with seating, a bin and an ecosac bag dispenser. There is no drinking water or shelter inside the enclosure, so carry your own water and plan around the shade of the trees rather than built cover. Dogs must be leashed outside the fenced zone, and inside the council expects you to stay in the park and hold effective control by voice, so the fencing is a safety net rather than a substitute for a reliable recall.

Two island-specific cautions: ticks are prevalent in the bay islands' forested areas, so make sure prevention is current, and scan for wildlife before unclipping, as koalas occasionally move through island reserves. If a dog turns aggressive, leash up and leave.

Max: check the tide chart before you go. High tide swallows the sandy banks along the foreshore and leaves a lot less room for a wander after the park session.

The vibe

Weekday mornings and late afternoons are the quiet windows; weekends draw more locals. There is no lighting, so visits belong to daylight hours. Some patches of soft dark sand sit around the park and the adjacent foreshore, which dogs happily dig through but shoes less so.

Getting there and parking

Macleay Island is reached by SeaLink ferry from Redland Bay Marina, as a foot passenger or on the vehicle barge if you want to drive to the park. Dogs travel on lead or in a crate, but confirm current conditions with SeaLink before you book. Free street parking sits near the park, and the ferry terminal side of the island is an easy walk if you are on foot.
