Burrum Shores Beachfront Campground

Burrum Shores Beachfront Campground sits right on the sand at Burrum Heads on the Fraser Coast, and it is one of the genuinely dog-first campgrounds in the region: dogs are welcome across powered and unpowered sites, plus the on-site cabin known as The Shack, and the beach out the front has council-designated off-leash time. It is a nature-first park, with kangaroos on the grounds and wetlands around the edges.

Dogs stay on a leash at all times within the campground boundary and must be supervised for the whole stay, they cannot be left alone in a tent, caravan or cabin while you head out. They are not allowed inside communal areas such as the amenities block or camp kitchen, you clean up and bag their waste, and washing dogs on-site is not permitted, so bring your own wash gear if salty coats bother you.

Before booking, confirm your chosen site type is pet-friendly and ask about any pet fee, since the park does not publish one. The Shack, the on-site cabin, is part of the dog-friendly offering, which is unusual for beachfront cabins.

The vibe

Guest reviews rate the park highly for its beachfront location, camp kitchen and lagoon, with powered sites backing onto the dunes. Burrum Heads itself is a quiet fishing village at the mouth of the Burrum River, well away from the Hervey Bay strip, and the beach directly in front of the park is the main event.

Getting there and parking

The campground is at 90-116 Bushnell Road, Burrum Heads, about 35 minutes north-east of Hervey Bay. Parking is at your own site, and everything in the village, including the boat ramp and the general store, is a short walk or drive away.

Close by with the dogs

The Fraser Coast council's Burrum Heads Foreshore zone, running between Dudley Street and Bushnell Road, allows off-leash from 3pm to 8am, with leashed hours during the day, so check the signage where you hit the sand. Serenia Beach on the other side of the village is off-leash 24 hours. Toogoom's dog-friendly beach access points are a few minutes south, and Salty at Toogoom is a waterfront coffee stop after the morning run.
