Toogoom 10 is the northern access point to Toogoom Beach, off Beachside Drive on the Fraser Coast. It is a quiet, north-facing strip with calm shallow water and a huge sand flat at low tide, far less busy than the Hervey Bay beaches a short drive south.

The rules. This northern stretch is time-restricted rather than the 24-hour zone further along the foreshore. Dogs are on-leash from 8am to 3pm and may be off-leash outside those hours, but boundaries and seasonal shorebird closures on the Fraser Coast are under review, so check the council signage at the access path before you let your dog off. Dogs must stay under effective control and return on recall at all times.

The water and sand. The tide goes out a long way here, leaving up to 50 metres of firm flat sand for running at low tide, with a fair walk to the water. High tide brings the water close in and is better for a swim. Watch the incoming tide across the flats, it returns faster than it looks.

What's there. Direct sandy access path to the beach, rubbish bins and dog-bag dispensers at the access point. There are no public toilets or showers at the small access points themselves. Bring your own water bowl, there is no dog water station here.

Getting there. From Hervey Bay, head northwest on Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road, take the Toogoom turnoff onto Toogoom Road, then onto Beachside Drive. Parking is free street parking along Beachside Drive. Public transport is very limited, so drive or use a rideshare from Hervey Bay.

Nearby with the dogs. Salty at Toogoom (67 Moreton Street) welcomes dogs in its garden, and Goody's On The Beach (54 Moreton Street) is a dog-friendly waterfront spot. Serenity Caravan Park on Moreton Street is dog-friendly for a longer stay.

When to go. Weekday mornings are quietest. Aim for low to mid tide for the most room to run, and bring shade and water as the beach is fully exposed. Good for relaxed walkers and dogs that like a big open space.
