Toogoom 10 Beach Access

Toogoom 10 is one of the numbered beach access points along Toogoom's north-facing foreshore on the Fraser Coast, reached off Beachside Drive. It is a quiet strip with calm shallow water and a huge sand flat at low tide, a long way from the Hervey Bay crowds a short drive south.

The rules

Fraser Coast Regional Council runs the Toogoom foreshore on a timed system: dogs are on leash from 8am to 3pm and may be exercised off leash under effective control from 3pm to 8am. The off-leash zone runs between defined access paths, so read the signage at your access point before unclipping, and keep a reliable recall working at all times.

Carry bags and use the bins, keep dogs away from shorebirds and other beachgoers, and note that boundaries and seasonal closures on the Fraser Coast get reviewed, so treat the signs as the current source of truth.

The water and sand

The tide here goes out a long way, leaving up to 50 metres of firm flat sand for running at low tide, with a fair walk to the water. High tide brings the water in close and is better for a swim. Watch the incoming tide across the flats, it returns faster than it looks, and there is no shade on the beach itself.

Getting there

From Hervey Bay, head northwest on Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road, take the Toogoom turnoff onto Toogoom Road, then onto Beachside Drive. Parking is free street parking along Beachside Drive, and public transport is thin on the ground, so this is a drive.

Make a day of it

Salty at Toogoom welcomes dogs in its garden for coffee or lunch, and the Serenity Caravan Park and Lemac on the Beach both take dogs if you are staying overnight. For a bushwalk option, the Takura Trail Head of the Mary2Bay Rail Trail is back toward the highway.

Weekday mornings are quietest, and early or late in the day aligns with the off-leash window so the dog gets a proper run. Bring shade, water and a bowl, as the access points themselves have no facilities beyond bins and bags.
