Chalet Motor Inn sits on Bourbong Street in Bundaberg West, a short drive from the Bundaberg city centre, and it is one of the few motels in town that sets aside specific rooms for guests travelling with dogs. The exterior is classic country motel, but the interiors have been renovated and the rooms are known for staying clean with pets coming and going.

Dogs stay in the designated Pet-Friendly Twin and Pet-Friendly Triple rooms, and listings report no additional pet fee and no size restriction, with up to two dogs allowed per booking. Cats are not permitted. The pet-friendly rooms are a subset of the motel rather than every room, so call ahead and have one held for you before you arrive. Bring your own bed, bowls and food, as the motel does not advertise supplying pet gear.

The rooms

The pet-friendly configurations run from a twin through to a triple with a queen bed and two singles, plus family rooms. Interiors are renovated and air-conditioned, with a kitchenette and complimentary bottled water. Parking is free and sits right outside your room, so unloading a dog, a crate and the rest of the gear is painless. Staff are described as accommodating toward dogs, which helps when you roll in late from the Bruce Highway.

Getting out with the dog

The motel fronts Bourbong Street, with quiet residential streets a short walk away for toilet stops and parkland along the Burnett River close by for a proper on-lead walk. Coffee on Bourbong is an easy dog-friendly coffee stop on the same strip, and the Daph Geddes Park fenced dog park in Bundaberg East is a short drive for secure off-lead time. If the pet-friendly rooms are taken, the Bundaberg East Cabin & Tourist Park and the Bundaberg International in nearby Millbank are the fallbacks.
