Coffee on Bourbong

Coffee on Bourbong is a family-run cafe inside the Margaret Rose Centre on Bourbong Street in Bundaberg West, opposite the roundabout near the Mater Hospital. It is a weekday-only operation, opening at 7am Monday to Thursday and from 7:30am on Fridays, which makes it a breakfast-and-lunch stop rather than a weekend destination.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, not inside. Staff have been known to bring out a water bowl and the occasional treat, but ask when you order rather than counting on it. Keep your dog leashed and settled beside your table; the cafe draws families with kids, so a calm dog earns goodwill. The setup is easy ground-level access from the car park.

Worth knowing

The homemade pies are the drawcard, generously filled and locally regarded as some of the best in Bundaberg. The menu also runs to schnitzels, pizza, sandwiches and thick milkshakes, with a relaxed feel regulars come back for. Last orders are early, around 2:30pm most days and 1pm on Friday.

Getting there and parking

There is plenty of off-street parking on site at the Margaret Rose Centre, so this is a straightforward drive-in stop rather than a hunt for kerb space on Bourbong.

Close by with the dogs

Alexandra Park and the Burnett River parkland are a short drive away for an on-lead walk after pie and coffee. For off-lead time, the Bundaberg North dog park has two fenced enclosures with water taps, and the Daph Geddes Park fenced dog park adds agility obstacles east of town. Another weekday option is the Urban Dragonfly Coffee Lounge in Svensson Heights.
