Roebuck Plains Caravan Park

Roebuck Plains Caravan Park sits about 30km east of Broome on the Great Northern Highway, attached to the Roebuck Plains Roadhouse. For dog owners it fills a simple gap: many Broome parks restrict or exclude pets, while this one takes dogs on its powered caravan and camping sites, which makes it a practical, cheaper overnight stop before driving into town.

Dogs are permitted on the powered caravan and camping sites. The rules are the standard roadhouse set: leads at all times inside the park, dogs under control, and clean up immediately. Management applies common sense rather than a published size limit, and it acts on barking complaints, so a dog that howls all night will not make friends here. The cabin and room pet policy is not confirmed, so do not assume dogs can stay indoors with you. Call the roadhouse before you book if you want a room rather than a site.

Max: heavy vehicles roll through here day and night, so keep your dog on lead and well clear of the fuel and service areas.

The place

Expect a working roadhouse park, not a resort. Sites are large, grassed and shady, with water taps for filling tanks, and the layout is built for easy manoeuvring with big rigs, caravans and RVs. The amenities block is kept reasonably clean and there is a pool for cooling off. There is no dump point on site. The roadhouse itself runs a 24-hour service station, a licensed restaurant and bar, and a small shop, so fuel, a meal and supplies are a walk away. Dogs are not allowed inside the restaurant and tavern areas.

Getting there and parking

The park shares its entrance with the roadhouse, straight off the Great Northern Highway about 30km from central Broome. It is a handy final top-up point too, since the roadhouse sells diesel and unleaded before the run into town. Sites are big enough that you will not be doing a multi-point turn with a van behind you.

Close by with the dogs

Once you reach Broome proper, dog-friendly options are spread across town. Molly's BakeHouse and The Green Mango Cafe are both worth a stop for coffee, and Kimberley Coffee Company roasts locally.
