Broome's Gateway Caravan Park

Broome's Gateway Caravan Park sits on Broome Road about 20 minutes from central Broome, a solar-powered, nature-based campground built for travellers with dogs. The park leans into large, shady, mostly unpowered sites with drive-through bays, a fire pit area and a dedicated fenced dog run, and its whole operation is set up around the assumption that your dog is coming with you.

Dogs at the park

The park's own pet policy is detailed: leads on at all times outside your immediate site, no dogs in the amenities buildings, clean up immediately, and continuous barking is not tolerated. Pets are barred from chasing the local wildlife, which at this park means birds, wallabies, kangaroos and the resident chickens. The fenced grassed dog run is the release valve for off-leash time, with one etiquette rule worth knowing: the first person in the run gets to decide whether they are comfortable sharing the space with another dog.

Worth knowing

Because the park runs on solar power, the sites are unpowered rather than powered, so plan your battery and generator use accordingly. Current rates run $44 a night for an unpowered caravan site for two people and $22 per person per night for campsites, with the seventh night free on weekly stays. Check-in is 11am and check-out 10am, and a $50 minimum call-out fee applies for after-hours arrivals not arranged ahead.

Out with the dog nearby

In town, the Shire of Broome's beach rules matter: south of the Broome Surf Life Saving Club ramp, dogs must stay on-leash for the first 450 metres, after which the southern Cable Beach dog exercise area opens up off-leash. North of the rocks, off-leash runs only between 5am and 8am, and the main swimming zones are prohibited year-round. Gantheaume Point and Riddell Beach offer designated coastal exercise spaces. Back towards the highway, The Green Mango Cafe is a coffee stop, and Matso's Broome Brewery pours the famous ginger beer in town.
