Matso's Broome Brewery

Matso's Broome Brewery is the town's best-known brewery, set above Roebuck Bay in Old Broome, and it doubles as one of the more reliably dog-friendly places to eat and drink in the Kimberley. Dogs on leads are welcome across the outdoor beer garden and veranda, which is where the bay views are anyway.

The dog setup

Dogs go in the outdoor, undercover beer garden and the shaded umbrella seating, not the indoor bar or restaurant rooms. Keep your dog on a lead at all times. Water bowls are usually available or brought out on request, and staff are used to dogs, but carry a spare travel bowl in the Broome heat. The garden gets busy around sunset, so a corner table away from the walkway makes settling easier.

Max: Get in early on live-music nights. A shaded, low-traffic corner beats being wedged next to the stage with a restless dog.

Worth knowing

The mango beer and the alcoholic ginger beer are the signatures, and the kitchen runs from 11am daily with lamb ribs, barramundi, prawns and a well-regarded steak sandwich. Live music is a regular fixture, so peak sessions get loud and crowded, which is worth thinking about if your dog startles easily. It opens 11am to 10pm, seven days.

Getting there and parking

The address is 60 Hamersley Street in Old Broome, a few minutes from the town centre. There is free street parking plus a free on-site car park, and both fill on weekend evenings, so arrive with time to spare.

Close by with the dogs

Town Beach and the Roebuck Bay foreshore paths are close for an on-lead walk before or after your table. The Shire of Broome provides dog exercise areas at Cable Beach, Gantheaume Point, Riddell Beach and Entrance Point, and it has been adjusting its off-leash zones, so check current signage rather than assuming older rules still apply.
