Knowhere Brisbane

Knowhere Brisbane is a moody, art-filled restaurant and cocktail bar on the Spring Hill fringe of the CBD, best known for an in-house dry-ageing fridge that cures beef, lamb, pork and duck for 28 to 60 days before the knife comes out. It opens 7am to 10:30pm Monday to Saturday with the kitchen serving lunch and dinner from 11am to 9:30pm, and closes Sundays. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor footpath and verandah seating along the street front, so you can settle in for a proper steak dinner with the dog at your feet.

The dog setup

Leashed, well-behaved dogs are fine at the outdoor tables on the corner of Upper Edward Street and Astor Terrace; the indoor dining room and bar stay people-only under food safety rules. Diners regularly describe the reception as relaxed, but the street-side tables are limited, so book ahead, mention the dog, and be ready to sit outside in any weather. Water bowls are generally offered on request, though carrying your own travel bowl is the reliable play.

The food and the drinks

The headline act is the dry-aged steak list, including the signature dry-aged rump with grilled cabbage, rotating sirloin and T-bone cuts, and house sauces with fries. Around the steaks sits a modern Australian menu of share plates: Bread Social focaccia, bang bang prawns, mushroom gnocchi, anchovies on toast and house-smoked meats. The cocktail list is serious, and the weekly deals are worth timing a visit around: a burger, fries and beer for $20 on Mondays and a schnitzel with a schooner for $25 on Wednesdays. Dinner bookings are strongly recommended; walk-ins suit the bar.

Getting there and parking

The address is 419 Upper Edward Street, Spring Hill, at the Astor Terrace end, a short walk up from the Central Station side of the city. Street parking in Spring Hill is metered and turnover is quick, so public transport or a short stroll from the CBD is the easier arrival.
