James Warner Park's fenced off-leash area sits right on the Brisbane River at Annie Street, Kangaroo Point, a double-gated run with river views that spares inner-city owners the dash to a busier reserve. One detail shapes every visit: there is no small-dog section, so it suits confident, sociable dogs more than nervous little ones.

The dog setup

The enclosure is grassy and fully fenced, with a drinking fountain that has a dog bowl, bench seating, and bag dispensers and bins on site. A playground and picnic area sit in the wider parkland, and the riverside walking track runs past the fence line. Under Brisbane City Council rules the fenced area is off lead, dogs stay under effective voice control, and the lead goes back on the moment you step outside.

Worth knowing

Council has been carrying out soil remediation works across James Warner Park and the neighbouring C.T. White Park, with the dog area affected during the project, so check the council remediation project page for current status before you plan a visit. Shade is limited inside the run, and low tide exposes mudflats along the riverfront that can spook a dog wary of mud and smell.

Max: no size split means you read the crowd before you unclip. If it is mostly big, boisterous dogs, take the nervous little one for a riverside lap instead and come back at a quieter hour.

Getting there

Access is via Annie Street with street parking on the surrounding residential blocks, which can be tight on weekends. It is an easy walk from the Kangaroo Point ferry terminals, and the park connects directly to the riverside walking and cycling path toward the Story Bridge.

Close by with the dogs

Medley on Wharf Street is the riverfront eatery a few minutes walk away, and the Shafston Hotel sits just across the suburb line in East Brisbane. The Kangaroo Point and Story Bridge loop makes the natural on-lead add-on, and the Raymond Park Fenced Dog Park is the fallback run one suburb over.
