Waterfront Dog Park

Waterfront Dog Park is a small, fully fenced off-leash enclosure inside Waterfront Park on Cunningham Street, Newstead, right by the Brisbane River. It is built for a quick city run rather than a long session, but the fencing means genuine off-leash time in a dense inner-city pocket where that is otherwise hard to find.

The dog setup

Dogs stay on lead in the wider Waterfront Park but can run free inside the fenced enclosure, and you stay inside with them. The surface mixes grass, sand and concrete, with bench seating, a basic water fountain and accessible paths. It is a compact space best suited to small and medium dogs rather than big runners, and shade comes from young trees, so it is limited.

Worth knowing

Some reports flag fruit from the trees inside the enclosure that may be toxic to dogs, so keep an eye on what your dog sniffs up in a small space where it is easy to find. The ground near the river can turn muddy after heavy rain. Bag dispensers and bins are provided, and cleaning up is mandatory.

Max: check what's growing before you let your dog off-lead here. Some of the park's trees drop fruit that isn't safe to eat, and in a small enclosure it's easy for a dog to find it fast.

Getting there and parking

The address is 13 Cunningham Street. Street parking around Cunningham Street and Skyring Terrace gets busy on weekends, so come early. It is an easy walk from the Teneriffe CityCat terminal and buses along Commercial Road, and the enclosure connects into the riverfront walking path and the boardwalk towards the CBD.

Close by with the dogs

Gasworks Plaza is about five minutes away with several dog-friendly outdoor tables, including HG Newstead and Clove Cafe. If the enclosure is crowded, Hoblers Bridge Reserve Fenced Dog Park is the other fenced option nearby.
