What's there. The enclosure mixes grass, sand and concrete, with bench seating for owners, a basic water fountain, wheelchair-accessible paths, and some young trees for limited shade.

Watch-outs. It's a compact space best suited to small and medium dogs rather than big runners. Some reports flag fruit from trees inside the park that may be toxic to dogs, so watch what your dog sniffs and eats. The ground can get muddy near the river after heavy rain.

Getting there. The address is 13 Cunningham St, Newstead. Street parking around Cunningham Street and Skyring Terrace gets busy on weekends, so come early. It's an easy walk from the Teneriffe CityCat terminal and buses along Commercial Road, and it connects into the riverfront walking path.

Nearby with the dogs. Gasworks Plaza is about five minutes' walk and has several dog-friendly cafes with outdoor seating. A few nearby apartment buildings also take pets if you're looking to stay in the area.

Weekday late mornings and early afternoons are the quiet window. Weekday mornings, evenings and weekend afternoons get busy, so if your dog is small or shy, aim outside those times.
